What to Expect

Your first visit, explained

New places and new treatments come with questions. Here are honest answers to the ones Ellis hears most often.

Your first appointment

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first appointment is 60 minutes and costs £45. It starts with a conversation: your history, your activity, what hurts and what you want to get back to. Ellis then assesses how you move and tests the affected area.

She explains what she finds in plain English, agrees a plan with you and usually begins treatment in the same session. You leave with a clear picture and things to do before your next visit.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing you can move in. Shorts are ideal if the problem is in your legs, hips or knees; a vest or loose top makes shoulders and backs easier to assess. Towels are used throughout treatment, so you are only ever uncovered where Ellis is working.

Do I need to be sporty to book?

Not at all. Revive treats sport and non-sport related injuries in people of all ages. Plenty of clients have never pinned on a race number; they just want to garden, work or play with the grandchildren without pain.

Will treatment hurt?

Deep tissue work can feel intense in the moment, and some techniques leave temporary marks (cupping) or mild post-treatment soreness. Ellis checks pressure with you as she works and nothing is ever pushed past what you are comfortable with. Tell her, and she adjusts.

Booking, deposits and payment

How do I book?

Online, any time, at the Cliniko booking page. You can also get in touch if you are not sure which appointment to choose.

How do deposits and cancellations work?

A deposit is taken when you book through Cliniko. If you cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, the appointment is charged in full. Rearranging with more notice costs nothing, so if plans change, change the booking early.

Can I pay by card?

Yes, card payments are accepted at the clinic, alongside the deposit you pay online at booking.

When are evening appointments?

The clinic runs until 7pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. Fridays finish at 3pm, and weekends are closed. The full hours are on the contact page.

Treatments explained

Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?

No, and the difference matters. Dry needling is a western technique built on anatomy and trigger-point theory: fine needles target tight bands within a muscle to help them release. Acupuncture is part of traditional Chinese medicine and works to an entirely different framework.

The needles look similar; the thinking behind them is not. Revive offers dry needling, not acupuncture.

Sports therapist vs physiotherapist: which do I need?

Both professions help people recover from injury. Physiotherapists are regulated healthcare professionals whose training covers a broad medical caseload, from stroke rehabilitation to respiratory care, and many work in hospitals.

Sports therapists specialise from day one in musculoskeletal injuries, soft tissue treatment and rehabilitation for active people. For everyday aches, sporting injuries and hands-on soft tissue work, a sports therapist is often exactly the right fit.

To be clear: Ellis is a sports therapist with a BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy, not a physiotherapist. If your assessment suggests something that needs medical input, she will say so and point you in the right direction.

What is TMJ-focused massage?

A massage treatment for the muscles around your jaw, face, neck and head, including buccal massage worked gently from inside the cheek. The aim is easing muscular tension and tightness around the jaw. It is not a medical treatment or a cure for TMJ disorder; jaw problems that need a dentist or doctor will be flagged, not massaged.

What are the marks after cupping?

Dry cupping lifts the tissue with suction, which commonly leaves circular marks. They are temporary, usually painless and typically fade within a few days to a week. If you have an event, a wedding or a beach day coming up, mention it and Ellis will plan around it.
